Fishing for striped bass or striper, as they are commonly called, is similar to fishing for large differences or smallmouth bass, but it must also be considered, if you want a truly rewarding experience as striper fishing.
While large and smallmouth bass characteristic water diving and trying to get the hooks of his mouth when you're on the line, usually striped bass remain in the water. Striped bass are generally larger fish, and tend to a heck of a fight, and are very exciting to catch because of this spirit of struggle and large sizes.
If you are wanting to catch striper, one thing that you have to remember is that they are very unpredictable. They tend to cover a large area of water, and your best bet for attacks against them is the search for their feeding grounds. They love live and dead fish, like shad, so if you look in the natural habitat of your bait, likely to be found.
They tend to like the clear water, which makes it easy to detect, but also tends to make them easier to identify you. Avoid spooking them and sending them in the sea depth of the slowdown in their approach to their feeding.
Most experienced striper fishermen agree that using fresh bait is a good idea if you want to catch striped bass. Some good options are:
Crankbait
Shad or similar cut bait
Anchovies
Herring
Shrimp
Gizzard
Bunker or menhaden
Shiners

Spoons
Another important factor when you are fishing for striper is the temperature water. If you are fishing the summer, just troll deeper. If you are a winter fishing, go to shallower depths. In the winter, you can even see the striper hitting the water surface. If you use a depth finder, the best way to find your goal is always to find the fish bait and trolling just above them.
During the spring spawn, the goal of rivers and streams with very little depth. In lakes, estuaries and bays look and structures, inlets, and banks around the areas bluffy.
Sometimes when you are fishing cooler weather months of the year, ballooning is a good technique to use for catch striper. Due to the tendency of striper to feed near the surface in shallow water.
