Hiking with Children in Nepal

For many, planning a weekend with a young family is daunting, to say nothing of the planning Trekking holidays abroad. There has to be this way and with some simple tips, any family with an open mind can enjoy an experience rich in culture with their children walking in the Himalayas. While planning a trip, can not seem like a lot of obstacles and difficulties to overcome, but if you properly prepared, the experience of walking with their children in the Himalayas could be truly rewarding and illuminating one, not to mention a valuable life lesson multicultural for young people.

The ideal age for children to walk is, believe it or not, as children who are still nursing and can be easily transported and the ages of six upwards. Although it may seem surprising to have a baby abroad, breastfeeding is actually a smooth and hygienic manner to feed a child. Young children as a rule are not so easy to take trekking, and who can not walk the distance or that is being tolerated for long periods of time.

Babies can be carried by a parent in a sling attached or placed, or alternatively, it is quite easy to hire a porter woman to accompany him on the trip. "Sherpani" or hill in Nepal women have a natural affinity with children and will only be like having a nanny along its route. While it may be unlikely that a single woman accompanying him, so you may have to hire two women, but also can act as a porter for you. These women may carry a child or luggage up to 22kg. The recruitment of women as participants is an excellent way to approach the cultural richness of Nepal, and also to show their support for equality between the sexes. In Nepal, local women working in the tourism industry was unheard of 10 years ago not now that women can find many guides and porters, to name a kayaker and mountain bike guides.

A child should not be treated as a special member trekking team, which should be included as everyone else. Sit down at the beginning of the day and talk to them about the road ahead, they know what to expect, to what extent, when you go to eat, put it to them as an adventure and your child will enjoy the day ahead. Uphill section will be the hardest. At these points, engage their children in games, eye spy, counting his steps, singing songs, telling stories, to guess and counting the steps to the next village. Distractions like this is keep your child engaged in more physical up and be amazed at how the rise fly (for you too!).

Mealtimes can be difficult for fussy eaters. It's a good idea that his son used to local food before leaving home. In the case of Nepal, which is the rice, lentils, green vegetables and potatoes. Do not make a big fuss about meal times. Encourage your children to eat food premises. Try to stay in teahouses with other children and get their own children to eat with them. If you have a fussy child when it comes to food, ensure bring enough food with you and that family is more important that your child receives adequate nutrition, while hiking. Bring products such as nuts, fruits nuts and seeds, cereals and muesli bars that you can also use dessert as a reward for your child after trying the local fare, you can purchase most these things in the supermarkets of Nepal, along with chocolate or candy, if necessary. However, in Nepal, local food is amazing and worth trying, not mention the cheapest option in most menus. In most of the teahouses can also get products like bread, eggs, fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, noodles, soups and pizzas simple.

Along the route, your kids interact with local children. Take some simple toys like a string of skipping, marbles, picture books or doll. Try to avoid bringing expensive toys modern as this could change or influence the people of the children to ask their parents for things they simply can not afford. Soon you will see how the language barrier does not really affect kids when they are playing before you know your children will play with joy and can have time to relax. This interaction with the local population could be the highlight for you and your children. As far as possible, you and your family must interact with the locals. Plan short day hike to give people time to explore. Getting the children to help in the field, harvesting vegetables and preparing food. Nepal are very family oriented and having children around is no problem for them, enjoy having children of different cultures around.

Take their children trekking is an important decision but, like all trips to the outcome of your vacation all comes down to your own attitude and open mind. After hiking the family before they can openly say that is one of the most rewarding experiences, and seeing the children adapt and interact with a culture totally alienated from their own is a real joy for all stakeholders.

If you plan to bring their children, their best to book a trip through a reputable agent, ask them to tailor an itinerary with short trekking days, a couple of stays at home and an extra magazine to help along the way. Some recommended for low-altitude excursions suitable for families in Nepal are —
