What are the causes?
Hemolytic reactions (destruction of red blood cells) are transfusion of blood match. Incompatible blood transfusion triggering the most severe reaction, characterized by intravascular clumping of red blood cells. Receptor antibodies (immunoglobulin G or M) adhere red blood cells from donated blood, leading to the class and the widespread destruction of red blood cell receptors and, possibly, the development of coagulation intravascular coagulation and other serious effects.
Transfusion of Rh incompatible blood triggers a less severe reaction within a few days to 2 weeks. Rh reactions are more likely in women sensitized to red cell antigens by prior pregnancy or factors unknown, as a bacterial or viral infection, and those who received more than five transfusions.
Allergic reactions are very common but rarely serious. Febrile nonhemolytic reactions, the most common type of reaction. apparently develop when antibodies attack the antigens of the plasma recipient.
Bacterial contamination of donated blood, although rare, may occur during donor phlebotomy. It is also possible contamination of donor blood with viruses (such as hepatitis), cytomegalovirus and malaria-causing organism.
What are the symptoms?
Immediate effects hemolytic transfusion reactions develop within minutes or hours after the start of transfusion and may have chills, fever, urticaria, palpitations, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, chest and back pain, low blood pressure. bronchospasm, angioedema and of signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, shock, pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure. In a person having surgery under anesthesia, these symptoms are masked, but blood oozes from mucous membranes or the incision.
Delayed hemolytic reactions can occur until several weeks after transfusion, causing fever, unexpected drop in serum hemoglobin, and jaundice.
Allergic reactions usually do not cause hemolytic fever and are characterized by urticaria and angioedema, progress may be cough, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vascular instability, shock and coma.
The characteristic of non-hemolytic febrile reactions is a mild to severe fever that began in May when starting transfusion or within 2 hours after its conclusion.
Bacterial contamination causes a high fever, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and, possibly, shock. Symptoms of viral contamination may not appear for several weeks after transfusion.
How is it diagnosed?
Confirming a hemolytic transfusion reaction requires proof of blood incompatibility and the evidence of hemolysis. When this reaction is suspected, the blood of the person is typing and cross match with donated blood.
When suspected of bacterial contamination of blood culture should be done to isolate the causative agent.
How is it treated?
At the first sign of a hemolytic reaction, the transfusion is stopped immediately. Depending on the reaction of the person, team health may:
monitor vital signs every 15 to 30 minutes, watching for signs of shock
maintain an open line of saline intravenously, by inserting a permanent urinary catheter and monitor the inputs and outputs
cover the person with blankets to minimize chills
provide supplemental oxygen with low flow through a nasal cannula or hand-held resuscitation bag (Ambu call)
administration of drugs such as intravenous drug to increase blood pressure and saline fight against shocks, epinephrine to treat breathlessness and wheezing, Benadryl to combat histamine release from mast cells, corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and keep Osmitrol Lasix or urinary function. Antihistamines and steroids Allergic reactions occur parenteral (arlaphylaxis a severe reaction, May require adrenaline). Medicines to reduce fever are administered by non-hemolytic febrile reactions and appropriate antibiotics intravenously are given for bacterial contamination.

What should I do on the red tattoo reaction?
I have gotten a tattoo, and much was done in red. but in days was raised, crusty and a lighter pink. How do I get the swelling to stop and return to normal? and when Healing is possible that the color of the region to get the red or with a different color without having the same reaction?
