Worldwide, millions of saying the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6 Jesus, daily or weekly. But is this really what Jesus wanted? And we do not benefit to say the same prayer over and over?
In his introduction to the Lord's Prayer, also known as the Our Father, Jesus says, "So is how you should pray. "In his prayer is recorded in Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus asks that God's name be glorified, that His will be done on earth as in heaven, to be provided for, to be forgiven as we forgive others, and be delivered from temptation and evil (Satan). This prayer is a model excellent for us to follow in making our own prayers to God.
Yes, Jesus says this is how we should pray, but he says that this is what we should pray. In fact, Jesus says in Matthew 6:7 that we should not say the same prayer over and over again, we warn against the phrase "vain repetitions" (KJV) because it will not be heard. Other translations do this as a "babbling" (NIV) and "say [ing] of the same things over and over again "(NWT). This tells us to recite the words of God comes to memory.
What, then, should we pray? Jesus tells us is appropriate to pray for the kingdom of God and for others and for ourselves. We should be honest and heart in our prayers, and not repetitive. As noted Hebrews 11:6, God will reward those who earnestly seek him. We can pray anytime anywhere and even pray in silence, encouraging Jesus in Matthew 6:5-6, drawing a comparison between the hypocritical Pharisees who prayed publicly for the attention and the true lovers of God who prays in silence and in private.
God calls himself "the hearer of prayer" (Psalm 65:2) and invites us to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), so we know that We want to develop a strong relationship with him through prayer. So it is so important for us to pray in our own words and with sincere devotion, rather than simply repeating sentences from memory.
The Lord's Prayer is an outstanding example of a good prayer, showing us what we pray and we tells where to direct our prayers – God, Our Father "- but do not have to repeat again and again.
