I am in no way a gardener, but I like my grandchildren and when I cried out to buy seeds, let them pick a pack of each. Chloe took the largest package of various flowers, and figured I could deal with them. But the youngest Bethany was going through one of those phases that children go through. She had taken eating tomatoes like apples, she never tired of them.
Yes, indeed. You guessed it. He picked up a package of tomato seeds. Gloria, what I was going to do now, so I knew I needed a greenhouse in these northern climates, to grow tomatoes. I tried to get out of it, but she had none of that.
"You said I could make my own seed, grandfather," he exclaimed.
"Yes, but I do not think you can grow without a greenhouse. I said.
Why?
"Because I do not like the cold. "
"But it's not cold, Grandpa, it's nice and warm.
"Not just today, I mean in general."
"What's in general?"
"It means … em … cold almost every day. "
"That's OK then, let the plant, while it is hot today. "
I gave in the time, thought, we will plant the seeds today and I'm finally going to forget all about them.
I paid for the seeds, a group of pots, a compost bag, and dragged her home on the bus. After getting off the bus the girls went ahead and left me the hump of compost and potted plants. Reach to the house and my hands were full, I opened the door with his foot and was just in time to hear the little one says, 'And, Grandma, Grandpa comes with pots and things compy and will plant the seeds immediately. "
"Hold it, hold it, 'said I, staggered through the door before grandfather nothing, he will have a nice cup of tea. "

But while waiting, in a way, humming a stuttering, until I had a cup of tea, then dragged me into the garden.
Opening the bag filled six pots of compost and left Chloe to plant your own flower seeds, then help Bethany with tomato seeds. Now all we could do was wait.
The weather was mild, for what should have been, as it was in May and we were too late to plant tomato seeds. Two weeks passed and the flowers began to show, but there was no signals tomatoes. Another two weeks passed and just as I had given up. Bethany came racing inside, everyone was happy.
'Come seek grandfather, who are growing.
And of course the tomatoes were showing, but not much hope for the harvest. Anyway, as soon as the plants were big enough I transplanted them in a couple of grow bags and took off like Jack's magic beans.
Now it's September 30, plants are 5 feet tall, filled with tomatoes, and are still in bloom. Bethany is on the moon and is waiting to pick fruit in the first place, or should I say vegetables?
But as we slip into October, in no way on earth will mature and to save disappointment he decided, after consultation with the great lady my mother, turning them into sauce.

Green tomato chutney. Make 5 to 6 pounds.
INGREDIENTS
4 pounds green tomatoes
1 pound apples
A pound of onions
8 ounces raisins
2 pounds soft brown sugar
1/2oz salt
1/2oz ginger root
1 ounce of mustard seeds
1 ½ liters of malt vinegar
METHOD
Cut the tomatoes, peel, core and cut apples chop chop the onion and raisins.
Bruise the ginger and tie in muslin bag.
Place all ingredients in a saucepan, bring to boil and simmer until the vinegar has been absorbed.
(Approximately 2 hours) At this point you should be able to draw a wooden spoon through the mixture and leave an impression.
Remove the bag of ginger, pour hot chutney into jars with screw-top dry and wax discs placed on top of each.
Cover the jars with a clean cloth until cold. Screw caps (Make sure they are proof of vinegar first) label and store in a cool cupboard.
Mmm, I can try it now.
