Shifting gears
The automatic transmission performs just as well as automatic transmission fluid (ATF) put into it. Components for the automatic transmission, as the torque converter, clutch packs, belts, brake, gear and hydraulic system all special requirements instead of the ATF.
Torque Converter
The torque converter is a fluid coupling between the motor and gears transmission. The torque converter consists of two halves, one attached to the motor (rotor) and an attachment to the transmission (turbine).
As the engine makes rotate the rotor, the ATF is forced through a small gap in the turbine blades, turning it so well. The rotating turbine provides energy finally to the drive wheels.
Fluid requirements: thermal and oxidation stability. Corrosion Properties. Seal compatibility. Minimal Viscosity / Temperature Change Characteristics. Ability Defoamers.
Clutch and brake packages Bands
Here are mechanical devices that release or hold rotation. When applied to the pressure of transmission fluid, clutches and brake bands or take turn out the train sets to provide different gear ratios.
Fluid requirements: Correct friction Properties. Thermal and oxidation stability. Minimal viscosity / temperature change characteristics. Anti-wear properties.
Gears
The gears are the muscle of any type of transmission, either manual or automatic. Arts torque and power and can provide the vehicle with the changes in speed and direction.
Planetary gear sets are used as the primary means of transfer or multiplication of torque from the engine an automatic transmission.
Planetary Gear offers many advantages over manual slide type gear. Force is divided into many more teeth strength. They are always on the screen and not have to relocate to shift gears. Hence, no clash as gears in and out of the mesh.
Requirements Fluid: Properties of extreme pressure. Anti-wear properties. Corrosion Properties.
Hydraulic Drive System
The transmission oil pump driven by the torque converter, generates fluid pressure within an automatic transmission.
Fluid pressure is the force to move the valves to determine shift points. The sense control valve input from many sources and regulates valves to provide smooth shifting at the right time, based on vehicle speed and engine load.
Fluid requirements: Minimal Viscosity / Temperature Change Characteristics. Corrosion Properties. Seal compatibility. Defoamers capabilities. Anti-wear properties.
