Marc Jacobs was born in New York April 9, 1963. After graduating from the College of Art and Design in 1981, entered the Parsons School of Design. As Parsons design student, Jacobs was the recipient of some of the schools highest honors. He received the Golden Thimble Award Perry Ellis Award the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year, all in 1984. Although still in the Parson Jacobs also designed and sold his first collection of hand-knitsweaters. The collection was designed for Ruben Thomas Inc., which is still tact. In 1986, supported by Kashiyama USA, Inc., Jacobs designed his first collection under the Marc Jacobs label. The following year, Jacobs received the distinct honor of being the youngest designer ever to be given more homage to the high fashion industry: The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. In 1989, Jacobs and Duffy joined Perry Ellis. Duffy was appointed Vice President and Jacobs was named President of Design for Women. While at Perry Ellis, Jacobs supervised the design of fired several women creting and the designer's collection. In 1992, the CFDA, Jacobs once again awarded a great honor: Women's Designer of the Year. In fall 1993, Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. launched its own licensing and design: Marc Jacobs International Company, LP.
Jacobs is American designer of fashion, now creative director of design prestigious French house Louis Vuitton in 1997, which is also the designer Chief Marc Jacobs line and distribution line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. The company has expanded to over sixty locations worldwide and currently produces six flavors, the two collections, sunglasses and watches.
