A guide to buying a quality flag display
If a military or Monument to the Flag is a very personal issue purchased to honor and display the flag presentation of a loved one and must be durable.
When searching for a flag display case, what should you look for? Appearance, style and price are usually the key factors involved in making the purchase. Do not forget the old saying, "You get what you pay for." A case shall be designed to flag protect the flag memorial in his possession and built to last for generations.
The three basic types of cabinets:
1. The "Made to Last for a while "model. Delgado, poorly constructed and compressed paper with a laminated wood and applied a Plexiglas front. The cases are constructed with glue and staples. With priced accordingly.
2. The "It could last a little longer" model. Made of compressed wood particles with a wood-like finish (laminate) is applied. This case marks usually has a Plexiglas front and use inferior construction methods. Economically price.
3. The "Made to Last for Generations "model. Solid wood flag display cases with glass fronts. (This includes both softwoods and hardwoods). These cases are the both strong and beautiful. Prices vary depending on the styles, types of wood used and construction methods.
There are two categories of such cases.
a. Cases are manufactured in series. (Usually foreign) These cases are usually of inferior wood and construction techniques.
b. Craft, Made in the USA, for woodworkers who are serious about their craft and the use of high quality products and construction methods.
A case of quality must be hand-built solid wood and wood screws, brad nails and / or joint. (Joint is where two pieces of wood are notches and then locked together) This type of construction adds strength and durability in the case of the flag.
Glass fronts are recommended, such as Plexiglas is prone to scratches. The cases with glass front look more professional and the glass will not fade or scratch when cleaned.
Cases made from wood or paper start to break down over time. These cases can be deformed and the laminate may begin to peel when subjected to high humidity or when wet. Repeated movement or manipulation may cause the cases become loose and eventually fall apart.
Buy from a reputable dealer. Choose someone who is willing to listen and respond to their questions and stay for their product.
