Doo Wop Box $49.98 The unwritten rules for doo-wop groups were deceptively simple: name your group after a bird (the Wrens, the Flamingos) or a car (the Cadillacs, the El Dorados), practice your two-, three-, or four-part harmonies on a neighborhood street corner or in the back of a candy store, and sing songs about how much you love your baby. It might have seemed like an obvious formula, but getting it just right … |

DISH Network and other satellite TV providers appear not only at night. The development of satellite television took years and their origins in the 1950s and the space race.
The original concept of satellite television is often attributed to writer Arthur C. Clarke, that was the first to suggest a system of satellite communications worldwide. Financing for the satellite technology in the U.S. began in the decade 1950, in the middle of the space race, and the launch of Russian satellite Sputnik in 1957.
The first communication satellite was developed by a group of businesses and government entities in 1963. Syncom II orbit of 22,300 miles over the Atlantic, the first communication satellite was on 26 July 1963 between U.S. Navy boat in Lagos, Nigeria and the naval station in the U.S. Army in Lakehurst, New Jersey.
Overloaded distribution methods land was based on telephone companies that use satellite communication long before the television industry, even went in the table. In fact, it was not until 1978 that satellite communication was officially used by the television industry.
In 1975, Co-founder of RWT transmitter and BBC engineer Stephen Birkill built an experimental system for receiving satellite TV Experiment (SITE), television, broadcast to India peoples, a geostationary satellite of NASA.
Birkill extended his system, receiving television pictures of Intelsat, Raduga, Molniya and others. In 1978, Birkill met with Bob Cooper, cable television journalist technical and amateur radio enthusiast in the U.S., who invited him to a conference of television operators cable and fair, the CCOS-78. It was there that he met with other enthusiasts Birkill satellite TV, who were interested, and willing to help develop the Birkill's experiments.
Interest in TV Receive Only (TVRO) satellite technology, blast forward. The boom American TVRO caught the attention of premium cable programmers, who began to realize the potential of satellite television. A mid 1970, was the TV reception under the control of international operators, Intelsat and Intersputnik.
On March 1, 1978, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) introduced public television by satellite. Satellite communications technology caught, and was used as a distribution method with agencies Broadcasting from 1978 to 1984, with the first signs of transmission of HBO, TBS, and CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network, later The Family Channel). Prices TVRO system dropped, and the trade organization, the Society for Private Commercial Earth Stations (SPACE), and the first performances.
The broadcasters realized that everyone had the opportunity to receive satellite signals for free, and they were not happy. But the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is governed by its policy of open skies, the belief that users had as much right to receive satellite signals as the bodies broadcasters have the right to pass.
In 1980, the FCC established the direct broadcast satellite (DBS), a new service that consists of a broadcasting by satellite in geostationary orbit, facilities for transmitting signals to the satellite, and equipment needed for people to access the signals. In turn, broadcasters developed methods of encoding their signals, forcing consumers to buy a decoder, or direct to home (DTH) satellite receiver, a satellite program provider.
From 1981 to 1985, the great market of satellite dishes soared. Areas rural gained the ability to receive television programming that could not be received by standard methods.
The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association of America (SBCA) was founded in 1986 as a merger between SPACE and the Direct Broadcast Satellite Association. But in this extent, American media companies had soured on the prospect of satellite TV. Broadcast cable was very successful at this time, and the satellite industry received much negative press coverage. Fifty percent of all satellites shopkeepers closed their businesses.
Business finally recovered, but the illegal theft of pay television signals remains a problem. Ultimately, encryption has proven to be the ultimate salvation the satellite industry as it has made the transition from hardware to software-based entertainment business.
The first successful attempts to launch satellites for the mass consumer market were led by Japan and Hong Kong in 1986 and 1990, respectively. In 1994, the first successful attempts in America were headed by a group of major cable companies, collectively known as Primestar.
Later that year, Direct TV was established in 1996, the DISH Network subsidiary of Echostar, also entered the television industry by satellite. DISH Network low prices of the competition forced the DBS providers also lower prices. And an explosion in the popularity of digital satellite television was produced.
