Tattoo artists, the flow of the story of her ability, will tell you it was sometime in the 1960s when the practice here in the United States made jumping bicep stout sailors and marines hairy chest to the general public. And now everyone, from the sullen teenager corrective supermarket (with suckers dragon's blood pattern on his forearm) to your friends, go driving, neighborhood, the soccer mom (with demure pink delicately engraved on his ankle) seems to be a sport. In fact, what was once considered pure kitsch and bad boy daring-do has become so general that even people in the wedding is going under the needle.
But if history is any model, the latter should not be so surprising. An ancient art form dating back at least to the golden age of Egypt and probably even more, tattooing has realized a large part in the ceremonies and traditions of countless cultures. In Borneo, women carried signs, which indicate their ability to marry; in Western Asia, Ainu peoples used body art to indicate social status and then introduced the practice of the Japanese who used it in their religious rites and ceremonies. And even today, Indian brides in a prenuptial ceremony called Mehndi, will have their hands and feet painted with intricate designs and tattoos that last from one to three weeks.
Clearly, only a matter of time before American brides and grooms had a good look around, globally and historically speaking, and started getting tattooed to commemorate the big day. "It's something that symbolizes their union," says tattoo artist Stacey Sharp of Ink Alternative in Ronkonkoma. In the next couple chose to marry than wolves with wings (the manly man for him, the smallest female with cubs for her) to the anniversary couple who opted for champagne and roses, Sharp has seen his share of loving couples willing to suffer for his love.
Or just suffer. These tend to be couples who insist in the name of your loved one forever etched in your skin. "It's like an evil eye," said Sharp. "It will only be a matter of time before being asking to have it covered again. "John Onysko tattoo artist at Cort's Royal Ink in Patchogue agrees." I've done so many cover-up name, I can not tell all ". According Onysko, about seven out of ten couples who do this kind of errors in the line back to eating optimism, or at least have a tattoo on the name spells now envy. Such errors, usually but not always, seems to be a product of youth. Older couples, the experience Onysko, yields much less by concealment.
Cover-ups become a moot point, however, if the couple chooses his tattoo more carefully. Onysko, for example, suggests the date of the wedding (less obvious that the names) or even portraits of each other. The latter he calls "definitely cool because they look exactly like a photograph and requires a real talent by the tattoo artist. However, one has to wonder how a portrait of the couple would be a wiser choice than the name.
For Sharp, the answer is simple: Keep the I-Do Tattoo to the symbols, either his-and-her wolves, champagne glasses, or Celtic runes. And avoid like the plague, pictures and names. "After all," Sharp said, "You know who you are." In addition, both Sharp and Onysko suggested the couple of do some research before heading to a studio. All it can offer the artist beyond a blank stare and a shrug can go a long way towards getting a tattoo they can live romantic. "Customers like to see is what you want to choose the tattoo," says Onysko.
Sharp, who has ten years experience as a tattoo artist, seems to see the uncertainty of the customer with greater tolerance, "Some people are very specific about what they want, while you have to lead others in a particular direction, and sometimes it's because they are open and see the tattoo as a form of personal expression. " Customers of such studies may be happier to prevent trafficking in images of values. Sharp says, "You can walk into some tattoo studios, where there is nothing on the walls, but the fine arts. "It is here, he says, that true art is practiced," only in a different kind of canvas. "
Whatever the studios and one pair for the OPT, however, one thing is certain: It is better to be clean, a fact that can not always be so obvious. Sharp suggests when a potential customer see the artist at work to see how it works with latex gloves (no cross-contamination) and how he handles needles (which should removed from sterile packaging in front of the client and disposed of properly). Customers also should ask to see the autoclave (sterilization machine and as recent records showing that in operation). Finally, customers should be confident going under the needle with a tattoo artist license. Sharp says, "You need to remember that you're definitely making a commitment." When it comes to I-Do Tattoo, no truer words have been spoken.
