Designer Chain
CAD Design Process
When designing something complex in CAD you will find that there is a little more than a process. Firstly the parts design. Then build the parts into sub-assemblies. Next to create subsets in groups. Is then generated in the machine groups. It is a logical pyramid process. You can also think of it as a file structure within a computer.
Design documents
The pieces are its building blocks. Without this level, nothing could be produced. The level of the game breaks all the "tricks" to its simplest expression. Always the flat part of the production. You make parts, then assemble them into other things. The pieces are generally composed of raw materials.
Consider a differential rear axle of a car. The differential gear and consists of a box. Each of these elements are part of the difference and the difference is the assembly of these parts.
Design of sub-assemblies
Sub-assemblies are the next level I guess you are getting the idea. You design parts first, then put them together into subsets. In the example above because the differential is a subset of the Axel "Group" of the car. Sub-assemblies to form groups.
Design Groups
Moving up the design chain, groups are usually things that you can identify. It could be a door, engine, transmission, or cooling of the package in a car. We have already used the example of an axis as a group. Groups meet in teams. Our example is a car that is at the machine level.
Machine Design
Finally, the highest level of the overall design, the machine. The machine could be built for the end user or to a sale another manufacturer. That manufacturer could use your "machine" as a subset or group. You can see it is all a matter of perspective. You can consider almost anything that you subset, group or team final. Everything is just semantics and that you are using the theme.
