Things to do in the hills of South Dakota Black Crazy Horse Memorial
After beginning the sculpture of Mount Rushmore, the Amerindians Black Hills wanted a sculpture celebrating their own heroes. They wrote to sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski name.
My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know the red man has great heroes also wrote Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear, when he invited Korczak in the Black Hills sculpting the Crazy Horse monument.
Korczal reached the Black Hills, May 3, 1947 to accept his invitation. When he started working on the mountain in 1949 was nearly 40 and had only 174 million left in his name. Over the decades have fought economic hardships, racial prejudice, injury and old age. For years, he and his son were the only ones working on the monument.
Work on the sculpture until today. Once completed will be 563 feet high and 641 feet long. Much larger than Rushmore. The story of how and why the monument is under enormous Creation is said in the visitor center.
If you are going to remember a night in summer, you can see the light show legends. This is a laser light show with multimedia images and animations projected on the mountain 500 feet.
The following was written by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski in May 1949.
Crazy Horse was born in Rapid Creek in the Black Hills of South Dakota in about 1842. During his stay in Fort Robinson, Nebraska, under a flag of truce, he was stabbed in the back by an American soldier was killed and 6 September 1877.
Crazy Horse defended his people and their way of life in the only way he knew.

Only after seeing the Treaty of 1868 broken
This treaty, signed by the President of the United States, said in effect: while rivers flow and the grass grows and the trees have leaves, Paha Sapa Black Hills Dakota will always be the sacred land of the Sioux Indians.
Only after seeing their leader, the conquest of the Bears, exterminated by treachery
Only after seeing the failure of government officials so that the treaty guarantees, such as meat, clothing, tents, and the needs there, they get to leave their land to live on reservations.
Only when he saw his people's lives and their lifestyle devastated and destroyed.
Crazy Horse was never known for having signed a treaty or touched a pencil. Crazy Horse, to the extent where the model is concerned, is that both the linear and non-likeness carved, but rather as a monument to the spirit of Crazy Horse his people. With his left hand pointing expelled in response to the question asked ridiculous white man, "Where are your lands now? he replied:
My lands are where my dead are buried.

The Memorial is an ideal place for a history lesson. It is a monument a proud people, who continue to thrive in harsh conditions. The monument is managed by a nonprofit organization. All fees go towards construction and maintenance of the monument.

I'm not 100% sure, but Scrawndogg25 (first responders) can be correct, except I think the Indian is pronounced like the G. K I know that the Mohawks and other tribes that some do and I think the Sioux to do well.
