The avocado is rich, delicious and full of nutrients, but, like several other fruits and some vegetables, cut once is difficult to keep avocados pigmentation brown. There are some ways to avoid this problem, including one incredible, but before entering it, you learn a little about this wonderful fruit and what makes both avocados brown.
Avocados are back as the mummies of Peru, many of which were discovered with avocado pits buried with them. The fruit flourished in Central America, particularly Mexico, the Aztecs called ahuacatl, which roughly translates into the testes, because its like when hung from a tree. The milky white liquid of avocado seed becomes a deep reddish-brown when exposed to air, which was used as ink by the Spanish conquerors.
The "butter pear" or "avocado" as it used to be known is often regarded as a vegetable, but is actually a fruit. Avocados are creamy, not too sweet and contain some monounsaturated fat, which helps maintain a healthy heart. They are rich in vitamin E, fiber, folate, potassium and many other minerals that contribute greatly to their health. In short they are very good for you!
The natural process that causes Browning avocado is called oxidation, which occurs when something starts to decompose when exposed to air, for example, metals such as copper and iron, which are oxidized. When a fruit such as avocado, apple or banana is exposed to air, but also begins to oxidize, turning an unappetizing shade of brown. The most common way to stop or reduce this process is by adding citric acid to the fruit exposed. Citric acid is a naturally occurring acid found in many fruits and vegetables such as lemons and limes. It is a potent antioxidant, unfortunately, not to impart a slightly acidic taste to the fruit when it is added. One method alternative is to keep air out of the avocado flesh exposed by putting plastic wrap tightly around the cut fruit before storing in the refrigerator. Some say that putting an avocado quickly in boiling water before peeling works. The skin may become black, but the fruit does not turn brown after cutting. One of the myths is to leave the pit in the avocado half cut to prevent turning brown, this is not particularly effective.
