More than 40,000 students have got a top grade in their A-levels this year, and one third of them have studied in schools independent. In addition, over 50 per cent of A-levels taken in the independent schools have obtained a degree.
Again, private schools dominate the Times A-level league tables for 2009. Royal Grammar School Guildford comes with 97.9 per cent achieving A or B, followed closely by the School Magdalen College, Oxford and King's College School, Merton. Seven of 10 schools in the league are independent.
The celebrations were held in independent schools across the country today. Brighton College announced today that its students have achieved 95 per cent of class A and B. Director Richard Cairns said: "What is so amazing is that students achieve this, besides playing sports, singing in a choir, painting in the art studio and do what other teenagers usually do.
"I am particularly pleased that despite the efforts of universities to use social engineering, the majority of our students to their college, including 18 at Oxbridge. It is time that students were treated according to their abilities and potential, rather than their parents to earn a living. "
King Edward's School, an independent agency in Bath, is celebrating its best results with a pass 100 percent. About 91 percent of entries were graded A or B, with the highest percentage ever reached a level of 62 percent.
The proportion of students receiving the highest rating in the States for independent schools has increased by 27 second year and the pass rate for A-levels grows 100 percent which inevitably lead to renewed demands for grade inflation.
