Black-NB
Scientific Name: Poecile atricapilla
The bird Maine and Massachusetts, the Black-NB is a small songbird in the family Tit found throughout Alaska, Canada and northern United States.
His head rounded, distinctive black cap, white cheeks and long, narrow tail to be easily identifiable in the suburban backyard. Their innate curiosity makes them likely be the first birds to discover a new garden supply, and their nests are on the patio watching and following them with wood shavings, while digging nesting cavity.
The male and female look alike, although men tend to be slightly longer and heavier. Black-capped Chickadees have a life average of around 2-3 years.
Identification Data
Head to tail Duration: 4 to 5 inches
Distinguishing Characteristics: round head, black crown and throat, white cheeks, short bill, top and light gray, gray reddish orange background
Male & Female Features: very similar, males are slightly heavier and longer
Songs and Calls
The Black-Cap chickadee vocalizations are very complex in meaning and usage. The song is a simple, clear whistle of two notes, identical in rhythm sounds like bee-Bay. The song is used to maintain contact with the herd, as the males sing only when a relative isolation from other chickadees.
His best known is called Chick-A-Dee-Dee-Dee, who gave the bird its name. It is usually a warning message, and includes changes in specific predators. Research has shown that the number of Dees in a call refers to the seriousness of the threat of predators nearby.
Nesting Behavior
Distribution: Alaska, Canada and northern U.S.
Nest type cavity nesting
The breeding season: April-May (depending on region), shortly after laying eggs nest building. One generation per season
Migration: do not migrate, but rather as "food flocks "in the winter – that travel from one area to another food, along with security.
Nido Facts: digging both male and female to the nest, but only the female builds the nest. To find a nest in your backyard, do Black capped Chickadees carrying wood chips, because commonly were seen carrying away chips from inside the nesting cavity.
They usually put 6-8 eggs and incubation lasts about two weeks, with the sole responsibility that show women. When eggs begin to hatch, the male provides most of the food so she can continue to heat eggs.
Once all eggs are hatched, both parents bring food chicks. Chicks leave the nest about 5-7 weeks after hatching.
Diet
Type of food: mainly eat insects, snails, seeds and berries. Seeds mixtures that include black oil sunflower seeds, sunflower seeds gray striped, peanuts, hulled sunflower seeds will attract Black-capped Chickadee. and enjoy insects fruit or suet.
Similar species
Carolina Chickadee – Telling the difference between the Black cap and Carolina is virtually impossible, with the most obvious difference between what their songs. Covered in black sang a note of two songs, while Carolina sings four notes.
Chestnut-backed Chickadees – reside along the Pacific Northwest, ranging from central California to Canada.
Boreal and Chestnut-backed Chickadees have more brown in their plumage that the Black Snow.
