Nyonya food (or Nonya as they are sometimes called) is probably one of the first kitchen unique fusion in Malaysia and Singapore. What is more interesting is that cooking Nyonya had an interesting history. Intermarriage among the first settlers Chinese in Malaysia during the Ming Dynasty and local Malays, giving rise to the generation of the Baba Nyonya.
If the maintenance of Chinese Customs, the Nyonya Baba adopted Malay culture. That was when she gave birth Nyonya cuisine – a unique blend of Chinese dishes with a Malaysian style of cooking. The two ingredients Chinese and Malaysian spices are skillfully combined in the creation of a Nyonya dish. The intelligent fusion of flavors is the result of superior culinary talent Nyonya cooks.
Today, Nyonya restaurant offers diners an authentic Nyonya cuisine heart Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Cooked with the diligence that recalls the traditional Baba and Nyonya signature dishes, this restaurant has been very popular since 3 generations. Opened in 1974, the popularity of Nyonya Restaurant has withstood the test of time for over 30 years.
Over the years, much of the line Nyonya Restaurant-up has kept its authenticity. However, the restaurant has also introduced a new series of Nyonya dishes in their bids to maintain over time and also to increase the variety. With this, many customers have been customers for the duration of this restaurant, ensuring quality constant and taste.
Popular favorites include Sayur Paku, a local fern dishes or coconut milk or belachan, sambal Udange, delicious shrimp in a spicy sauce, and Ince Kabin, Nyonya-style fried chicken. Another favorite is the Tumis Gulai Ikan, fish in a spicy broth, Beef Rendang and Otak-Brains, steamed fish marinated in spices and wrapped in banana leaves.
Desserts are also a pleasure here. The most popular selections are Sago Gula Melaka, ice kacang and bubur Cha Cha, which are all different combinations sugar, ice and flour based ingredients. A myriad of kuih (sweet cake for dessert), with local names, such as wave wave-ku, Ang Koci and kuih are also part of the menu. Fill a meal with these indulgences is a necessity for the final dinner at Nyonya Restaurant!
